Quality Problems That Can Disrupt Your Sign Project
A small manufacturing error can become an expensive site problem. Our checks focus on the details your brand, installers, and project team depend on.
Wrong Brand Appearance
Incorrect colors, finishes, letter spacing, or lighting can make signs look different across a brand program. Approved artwork and physical samples guide checks.
Lighting and Electrical Faults
Dark spots, flickering, incorrect LED colors, and poor connections may appear after assembly. Lighting and applicable electrical checks identify problems before release.
Batch-to-Batch Differences
A sample may look right while later batches vary. Material codes, drawing revisions, first articles, and batch records help maintain the agreed standard.
Installation or Packing Errors
Wrong hole positions, missing power supplies, or mixed store kits delay installation. Dimensional, accessory, and package checks address these avoidable issues.
Six Quality Gates From Materials to Shipment
Inspection starts before assembly and continues until the order is cleared to ship. Each gate uses the applicable drawings, specifications, samples, and project inspection plan.
01
Incoming Materials
Check material identity, thickness, color, condition, component model, and lot information against approved requirements.
02
In-Process Inspection
Check critical cutting, forming, welding, finishing, assembly, LED, and mounting operations at defined stages.
03
Final Product Inspection
Confirm sign identity, dimensions, appearance, function, installation points, and required accessories.
04
Testing and FAT
Complete routine lighting checks and the additional tests or factory acceptance checks specified for the project.
05
Packaging Inspection
Check protective materials, individual product identification, accessories, carton or crate labels, and packing records.
06
Shipment Release
Review inspection status, required test records, open defects, and shipping documents before final release.
Incoming Checks for Materials and Components
A finished sign cannot be better than the materials used to build it. Incoming inspection helps identify wrong specifications or damaged components before they reach production.
Metal Sheets and Structures
Check material grade where documented, thickness, surface condition, dimensions, and relevant batch identification before cutting or forming.
Acrylic Faces and Panels
Check thickness, color code, light transmission where applicable, surface condition, cracks, and suitability for the approved sign design.
LEDs and Power Supplies
Match models, electrical ratings, quantities, connectors, and applicable supplier files with the approved bill of materials.
Paint, Coatings, and Hardware
Confirm finish codes, supplied condition, fastener types, sealing materials, and any approved substitutions required by the project.
Inspection Points Built Into Sign Manufacturing
Different processes create different risks. Inspection follows the actual production route rather than applying one checklist to every custom sign.
Acrylic Faces and Graphics
Check panel fit, face edges, cracks, printing, message accuracy, and the finished appearance of visible surfaces.
Forming and Letter Returns
Check bends, depth, edge condition, and fit so the sign keeps its intended shape and proportions.
Welds and Structural Joints
Inspect weld position, continuity, distortion, reinforcements, and connection details required by the approved design.
Cutting and Dimensions
Measure overall size, key parts, stroke widths, and alignment against the current drawing before errors move into assembly.
Paint and Metal Finishes
Compare color, gloss, texture direction, coating coverage, and visible surface defects with the approved finish standard.
LEDs and Final Assembly
Check LED placement, wiring polarity, connectors, power supplies, mounting points, and component protection before closing the product.
Quality Checks Matched to Each Sign Type
Custom signs do not share the same failure risks. We select inspection points around how the finished product is built, powered, installed, and used.
Channel Letters
Check letter depth, face and return fit, spacing, illumination, wire exits, mounting holes, and required templates.
LED Light Boxes
Inspect cabinet dimensions, panel seating, frame joints, light distribution, electrical access, and applicable seals.
LED Neon Signs
Check neon path, bends, color, light continuity, attachment to the backboard, controls, and power connections.
Metal and Acrylic Signs
Focus on material thickness, edge quality, finish consistency, surface protection, mounting hardware, and overall alignment.
ADA and Wayfinding Signs
Verify approved text, numbering, arrows, pictograms, tactile details, Braille where specified, and location identification.
Large Building Signs
Check sections, joint alignment, brackets, access points, lifting or mounting interfaces, and the approved assembly sequence.
100% Lighting Checks and 72-Hour Aging Tests
A sign lighting up once does not prove that the complete lighting system is stable. Illuminated signs need both an initial functional check and continued operation under controlled conditions.
100% Power-On Inspection
Every illuminated sign receives a lighting check. Inspectors look for unlit sections, flicker, obvious dark areas, incorrect colors, power-zone issues, and control faults. RGB and RGBW products also require checks of applicable color channels and operating modes.
72-Hour Aging Test
Illuminated signs undergo a 72-hour aging test to help reveal early LED, power supply, connector, wiring, or controller faults. The record connects the product or batch to operating conditions, time, observations, and final status.
The affected sign is identified, repaired or fitted with the correct replacement part, and subjected to the applicable checks and renewed aging before release.
Additional Tests Based on Product and Project Risk
Testing depends on the sign design, intended environment, destination market, and agreed acceptance criteria. These are available test capabilities, not an automatic test package for every order.
Electrical Safety and Grounding
Assess applicable connections, polarity, insulation, grounding, and electrical operation against the approved configuration.
Brightness and Color Temperature
Measure lighting output and CCT where required, using recorded voltage, viewing or measuring conditions, and acceptance ranges.
High and Low Temperatures
Check relevant materials, lighting, electrical components, or assemblies under project-defined temperature conditions.
Water Resistance
Check relevant seams, wire exits, access doors, drainage, and post-test function under defined test conditions.
Salt Spray
Evaluate specified metal or coated samples for corrosion performance under an agreed test method and duration.
Coating Adhesion
Use an appropriate method to assess whether selected paint or powder finishes adhere to the prepared material.
Keeping Brand Standards Consistent Across Batches
For chain stores and repeat purchases, matching the approved standard matters as much as passing a one-time inspection. The inspection plan links the original approval to later manufacturing.
One Approved Reference
Use controlled artwork, physical color or finish samples, material codes, lighting specifications, and a first article where required. Screen images alone are not reliable color references.
Checks During Batch Production
Compare products against the same drawing revision and agreed sample. Record relevant product IDs, batch information, lighting appearance, finishes, and deviations before release.
Controlled Reorders and Multi-Site Kits
Identify each store, product, message, and version. For later orders, confirm which specifications stay the same and which changes have been approved before production.
Quality Checks Continue Through Packaging and Release
A correctly made sign can still reach a site with missing parts or damaged finishes. Before packing is closed, product identity, protection, and installation items need a final review.
Protect the Finished Surface
Check films, foam, dividers, supports, and contact points for acrylic, painted metal, mirror finishes, and fragile assemblies. Protection is matched to the product and transport method.
Count the Installation Items
Match power supplies, controllers, brackets, screws, templates, connectors, and spare parts where required to the correct product or store kit.
Match Every Package to Its Destination
Check Product ID, Package ID, store or location information, quantities, labels, and the packing list. Shipment release follows completion of applicable inspection and document checks.

Quality Control Questions Before You Place an Order
Does Azovo check every illuminated sign?
Yes. Azovo performs a 100% power-on check on illuminated signs and a 72-hour aging test. These checks do not mean that every product receives every optional electrical, environmental, or certification test.
How do you confirm our approved brand color?
The inspection reference may include a physical color or finish sample, approved material code, coating specification, and agreed lighting conditions. High-risk color decisions should not rely on a phone photo or screen rendering alone.
Can we inspect the first article before volume production?
Yes, first-article inspection can be included where the project requires it. Define what needs approval, who approves it, and whether any change is needed before production release.
Can our inspector or an independent company visit?
Azovo supports scheduled factory visits, video audits, client inspections, and third-party inspections. The inspection scope, product readiness, sampling rules, and reports should be agreed in advance.
Are all Azovo signs UL listed or IP68 rated?
No blanket certification or protection rating applies to every product. Electrical listing, component documentation, IP performance, and other requirements must be reviewed for the actual sign design, model, production location, and destination market.
Do you use the same sampling plan for every order?
No. Sampling scope and acceptance criteria depend on the product, batch, risk, and agreed inspection plan. A third-party sample inspection does not mean every piece was checked by that inspector.
What happens if a product fails inspection?
The affected item is identified and held. The issue, correction, and applicable reinspection or retesting are recorded before closure and shipment release.
What documents can our purchasing team receive?
Depending on project requirements, available records may include approved drawings, inspection results, test records, first-article documents, packaging checks, and release documents. Confidential and third-party files are shared only within their authorized scope.
